Far too hot to be walking anywhere today of course, but this advert from 1950 brings back so many memories. If you have to go out for a stroll what could be better than in a pair of Mary Janes? Red of course!
Do you know there was even a roundabout with toy horses in my local Startrite shop when I was little. It was enormous! Mary Janes for me everytime! Milly
I had a pair of red Startrite Mary Janes with a cutout diamond pattern. My mother caught me perched on a chair at the kitchen sink, dousing them in washing up liquid. How I would love to have those shoes again!
Funnily enough, I was looking at a pair of black Start Rite Mary-Janes the other day, thinking that they'll be ideal for my daughter when she starts school in September.

Hi Milly and Dottie. I'm a Startrite girl, always Red ones, second choice black patent. I would love a pair again too!

ReplyDeleteI can't remember the shoes I had, but I'm sure they would have been very sensible! That could be me and my brother walking to school in that poster! x
ReplyDeleteOur Start Rite shop had a tumbling monkey in the window that went over and over on his bar. I wonder what happened to him.
